Roku Streaming Stick
Courtesy The All-Around Winner
Roku's Streaming Stick is an intuitive device that supports almost every video platform (except iTunes) in an easy-to-browse library. It's cheap, and plugs in via an HDMI outlet. If your streaming needs can be best described as "just show me some damn TV," then go for Roku. (Upgrade to the Roku Streaming Stick+ for 4K and HDR capabilities.)

Amazon Fire TV Stick
Courtesy This one goes out to all the folks whose homes are controlled by Alexa and Prime. Amazon's Fire TV stick is comprehensive, but prioritizes Amazon's own streaming service, making Netflix and other popular apps second stringers. It also does not support YouTube or iTunes. But you can order it around via Alexa voice control, or pair it with an Echo device. (Upgrade to Amazon Fire TV, which streams in 4K Ultra HD.)

Apple TV 4K
Courtesy If you worship at the altar of Apple, then Apple TV is the obvious option. Though significantly pricier than Roku and Amazon's offerings, it supports very fast and beautiful 4K streaming. It's also incredibly easy to integrate everything you've ever bought on an Apple device, and comes with a Siri-controlled remote. This device's blind spots are for non-Apple music streaming services (but it does support Amazon Prime) and of course, your budget.

Google Chromecast
Courtesy Google's Chromecast is different because you control it from your device—i.e. your phone or tablet—which can be a deal breaker. If the app's on your phone, then you "cast" it onto the TV via the Chromecast app. Besides being the cheapest option, this one is also a more intuitive pick for Android and Google Home users.
