After reviewing more than 60 applications, we welcomed 14 teams from PlumSpace, Clever Cloud, GREYCORTEX Mendel, OVHcloud, Yandex, MTS, Nikhef, Observatoire De Paris, DataDigest, Brno University of Technology, Sapienza Roma University, University of Pisa, Queen Mary University, Technical University of Darmstadt, Durham University, and Technical University of Munich.

Where can I learn more about the BlueField DPU?

What is DOCA?

The NVIDIA DOCA development platform enables developers to create network, storage, security, management, and AI and high-performance computing (HPC) applications and services for NVIDIA BlueField DPUs, much like how NVIDIA CUDA® enables developers to build GPU-accelerated applications.

DOCA provides a highly flexible environment for developing containerized applications and services that run on NVIDIA BlueField DPUs and provides developers a comprehensive, open platform for building software-defined, hardware-accelerated networking, storage, security, and management applications running on the BlueField family of DPUs. Pre-release information about DOCA and access to BlueField DPU documentation can be found on the DOCA early access page.
What meeting platform will be used?

The hackathon will be hosted on Zoom.
What kind of server setup is available to the teams?

Each team can use their own set up or can request for a pre-configured DPU set up from NVIDIA.
How do I get access to the DPU?

Your team will be contacted a few days before the event and provided with connection details and credentials to access your team’s dedicated setup. You will be able to use Secure Shell (SSH) to directly connect your laptop to the DPU operating system and its hosting x86 server. In addition, you’ll have access to the server’s Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) for power cycle and additional management operations.
What do I need?

Bring your team (up to five people per team), your ideas for AI or network-based applications that can use the DPU and its hardware acceleration, and your best hacking abilities!
How do I register or join a team?

Register a team of up to five people. If you don't have a team, please reach out to DPUHackathon@nvidia.com and we’ll try to match you with others to form a team. We encourage participants to start forming teams before registration.

Have your team leader submit the form on this page. Then the team lead will receive a confirmation email with a registration link for the rest of the team. After your team has registered, you may still modify your application by resubmitting the form and indicating that you’re amending your previous registration. Submissions will be evaluated by an admissions committee who decides which ideas enter the hackathon.
Is my idea a good fit?

The competition is open to any solution that runs on and/or leverages the hardware acceleration of the BlueField DPU.
How will the judges determine the winners?

The judges will evaluate both the level of innovation and vision in using the DPU and the execution of the idea.
Do all team members need to be from the same country or organization?

Teams can be formed by people from different countries and organizations.
When does the hackathon event start and end?

Registration closes November 13, 2021. Selected teams will be announced on November 17, 2021.

The hackathon will begin on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. PT and will end on Thursday, December 9, 2021. at 1:00 p.m. PT.

Rob Davis

Vice President of Storage Technology

Rob Davis is the Vice President of Storage Technology at the Nvidia Networking BU where he focuses on ways to apply high-speed interface technology to storage systems. As technology leader and visionary for more than 35 years, he has been a key evaluator and decision maker for the development of storage networking products. He is currently leading the development and marketing of products based on NVMe over fabrics, which will allow for the high-speed networking of PCIe-based storage.

Mr. Davis was previously Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at QLogic, where for 15 years he drove development and marketing of Fibre Channel, Ethernet and InfiniBand technology into new markets such as blade servers. Prior to QLogic, Davis spent 20 years at Ancor Communications, which QLogic acquired in 2000. At Ancor, Davis served as Vice President of Advanced Development, Director of Technical Marketing, and Director of Engineering. He drove development and marketing of their Fibre Channel products in the early 90s and their InfiniBand products in the late 90s.

Davis’ in-depth expertise spans Virtualization, Ethernet, Fibre Channel, SCSI, iSCSI, InfiniBand, RoCE, SAS, PCI, PM, SATA, and Flash Storage.
